MISS SIXTY FW09 New York 02-15-09

Miss Sixty | Runway Fall 2009 Collection-Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

Rock ‘n roll heavily weighted with an 80’s and punk feel set the tone for Miss Sixty.

Denim washes had a huge range from classic blues to greys and black of course, but the washing techniques were far from average - some were heavily bleached, others were very stone washed giving an allover crinkle texture reminding you of your favorite pair of jeans in 1985, colored tints and resin washes, fortunately not so much of the shredding we are currently seeing everywhere.

As far as denim styling, I personally was pleased to see the skinny jean still maintaining it’s power, especially with glam rock appliques and over-sized hardware.

On the other hand I was not so pleased to see the drop crotch which honestly looks like you are walking around with a full diaper on - terribly unflattering. The drop crotch / harem pant in my my opinion barely works with drapey jersey knits and lightweight wovens, and therefore stands no chance in heavier weight denim. Really, who will buy that?

Turning to non-denim…

There was a variety of prints, all loud and bold with tons of color and oversized. All except one which was a simple black on white supersized, graffiti-ish handwriting printed on a very feminine silk crepe. I could have done without the bright blue and pink animal prints, but it did complete the punk feel, although so tacky.

Puffy jacket outerwear was turned into futuristic, sex-pot dresses, black shag fur transformed itself from trim on a jacket to a complete vest to a long boa, slick black leather was seen as the classic motorcycle jacket, bustier, wide corset-like belts and then as high waisted hot pants!!!

Over the top rock ‘n roll, but what would fashion be if it wasn’t an absolute spectacle?!

The fabulous accessories - gloves, bags, hats, shoes - completed the look. If I could have taken anything home from the show it would have been every pair of shoes and the blue/orange printed strapless, super ruffled party dress. –Alix on Go
