  • Los Angeles Style on a Budget: Naven in Color

“Bright Lights and Minis, Oh My!Naven twins Kym and Alexis McClay with Khloe KardashianOne of the hottest trends this season has been far and away the bold use of color and the latest collection by LA-based twin designers Kym and Alexis McClay have definitely hit that nail on the head. Their line Naven, whose name comes from a city in Ireland where their family is from, is a collection of gorgeous and absolutely covetable pieces.Their bold use of neon yellow, hot pink, lime, purple, and royal blue is definitely what grabs your attention first but upon further inspection I was pleased to find that the construction and detail was absolutely impeccable. The fabrics included silks, deconstructed dresses, and a touch of iridescent shantung. One sweetheart boustier mini dress was definitely a piece I could see any twenty something wearing for a night out on the town. A favorite of mine was the chiffon racerback tank. At only $40 you could afford to get one in every color and print! They are cut to fit loose and flowy and have a completely ethereal feel while being playful at the same time. In prints ranging from geometric to floral to whimsical you can find one to fit any mood. If you are looking for that stand-out piece to add an extra punch to your wardrobe I definitely suggest the cropped corset which has an exposed contrast zipper down the front, features a sweetheart neckline, and paired with a high waisted skirt with just a couple of inches of stomach showing you’ll have all eyes on you. Both Kym and Alexis were incredibly sweet, not to mention beautiful, but more importantly they know their customer and are truly focused on keeping her happy.Naven pieces- Chiffon racerback tanksA goal they try to maintain is to keep their collection under $200 which, in these times, is definitely something that gives them that competitive edge. Alexis says, “We want to make sure that everybody can wear our clothes. We want to have a look that is unique and fashion forward where girls can go into a store at any age and be like ‘I love that stuff!’ and ours be the one that everyone can afford”. What is so intriguing is that the two of them possess rather different styles: one is classic conservative while the other is loud and loves to play with bold use of patterns and neons. With that, they are able to mesh their visions and create a line that can be as sexy as you allow it to be or as modest as you choose with colors that jump out at you or you can choose a more subdued look. For the girl who wants just a touch of color there are their oh-so-popular bow blouses. Cream or black for a very conservative look, or try the black and white floral that has a hot pink tie for the neck.Who’s to say that working in corporate America means bland and boring suits? Now you can throw it on with a pencil skirt, tie it up and throw on some hot secretary glasses for the day time. Evening comes , throw down the hair, take off the sunglasses and throw on some strappy heels and you are ready for whatever the night brings! All in all I could go on for days gushing about how absolutely fabulous this line is but instead of that I’ll simply leave you with this: Bright colors, flattering silhouettes, and a youthful spirit is what makes Naven a unique and sophisticated breath of fresh air that the City of Angels has been waiting for! — Elizabeth in L.A.Elizabeth’s chat points with event host Khloe Kardashian:”

  • Hometown Style: The 90’s Are Back in Los Angeles, fashion that is!

Volcom Does Not Disappoint …Volcom loves the 90’s There™s a breath of fresh air to the LA scene thanks to the true fashion feast in store at the launch of Volcama™s new denim collection, The event was held at the LA Volcom store and hosted by NYLON Magazine. The looks were a combination of 90’s grunge and 50’s greaser with tomboy pieces mixed in. My favorite pieces had to be the shoulder studded jean vest, the cream studded motorcycle jacket, and of course the tie-dye skinnys.Stud details were everywhere from jackets, to jeans, to shoes and really added that tough ‘Tank Girl’ vibe. Colored denim also made a huge appearance with cropped vintage wash vests and lightweight striped skinny jeans. The denim was super lightweight, soft, and featured great details such as tilted pockets and intricate stitching. While the clothes were amazing on their own, stylist Dani Stahl really brought these looks together. Pairing them with in-your-face jewelry by Noir and combining plaids with florals with tie dye. There were also a few Holiday pieces in the mix such as the sequined slouchy beret that I already have on my shopping list.Stylist Dani StahlWhat I also found to be so great was the combination of slouchy boyfriend shirts and cardigans with the many fitted sheer printed tees. This past year, the shredded legging was in and Volcom one-upped that with the shredded jean. Super distressed and super tight, I can see these on fashionistas from East to West.Volcom also decided to bring back the overall with a short cuffed version. A little bit tomboy and a little bit sexy make me rethink the idea that overalls were meant for the fashionably challenged.Another big hit was the boyfriend cardigan with a grey and lime checkerboard print, truly a show-stopper. For those of you who

  • Elizabeth in LA: The Layered Look in Jewelry Trends

Jennifer Fisher – Layering Isn’t Just For Clothes…Boho chic has become a staple wardrobe from Melrose to Sunset and I have absolutely been taken by the whole trend. My favorite look consists of a skinny jean, loose tank, vest, and strappy flat sandals.Accessorize with a fun printed scarf and tons of jewelry and voila! You get the boho feel without fully converting into a hippie. This jewelry trend is an easy look you can do without having to break the bank and the best part is that its kind of an ‘anything goes’ look.

  • LA Fashion Week: Lana Fuchs Runway Review, Spring 2008

A Couture Wonderland…The Lana Fuchs Couture fashion show was an opulent mash of party dresses, gowns, bold prints and colors, ruffles, fringe, and so much more! I do love, however, that they kept the make-up and hair minimal at best so that all the attention could be focused on the clothing. The hair was pulled away from the face, smooth but loosely set. A nude lip and cat eyes were all they needed to top it off. There was a great little selection of printed dresses on the runway that I couldn’t get my mind off.

  • LA Fashion Week: Whitley Kros runway review

Attending the Whitley Kros Spring 2009 fashion show was like being invited to a posh slumber party. The models lightly glided down the runway with messy mopped up hair thrown in a tiny little twisted bun. The make up was minimal with kisses of peach. If this is what spring is going to be about, then we are definitely in for a treat!
