Get Some Style Inspiration From Paris Flea Market Finds
Ordinary rummage sale? I think not! Ordinary rummage sale? I think not!Leave it to the Parisians to cleverly style the way they present their vintage wares at the Paris Flea Market. It’#39;s one of my favorite places to visit in Paris, even if only for some interesting inspiration. If you find some large items, like the perfect chandelier or chaise lounge, most venders are pretty savvy to help you ship them back to the states… for a price, of course. Luckily inspiration is priceless. The last time that I was in Paris, I tagged along on one of Richard Nahem’#39;s walking tours of Paris and we had the most incredible time looking for fashion and some rather glamourous home items. I’#39;ll let Richard Nahem take you on a tour of some of his recent Puces St. Ouen/St. Ouen Flea Market flea market finds. Wish I was there, but this is the next best way to experience it, don’#39;t you think? –S.H. READ MORE »

That Grecian draped dress that you love was probably inspired by Mme. Gres! Most eyes may be on the Alexander McQueen retrospective in New York, but don't miss this exhibition from one of the masters in fabric draping. If I could only have just one vintage couture piece, something from Madame Gres would be on my wish list. Home Style- French Furniture House Taillardat Adds a Fashion Touch to Marie Antoinette, Louis XV, Louis XVI, Empire and Directoire pieces
You all must know that I cannot possibly imagine living in a home without the benefit of having something beautiful to look at and inspire by way of its furniture. For me, in particular, the chair can take so many artistic and creative forms that I wish I could collect as many as my other obsession- shoes and boots!>>MORE: Home StyleI've almost run out of any possible space to add another "interesting" chair in our loft, so I've come to admire from afar, particularly ones that have a different design aesthetic from my home. Richard Nahem, who has a pretty fab pad in Paris, came across this incredible melding of design and fashion with classic high-end furniture reproductions on one of his Parisian walking tours. Both Richard and I love La Fumeuse, pictured left, and we don't even smoke! It's a hot pink velvet "smoking chair," complete with with cigarette box by fashion designer Chantal Thomass. The chair is made of black varnished beechwood and nickel plated nails and fabric by Pierre Frey. Here's what more of what he found –S.H.Taillardat is a manufacturer specializing in luxurious high-quality reproductions of 18th century furniture including Marie Antoinette, Louis XV, Louis XVI, Empire, and Directoire styles. House of Dior Homage Exhibition for Paris Fashion Week

Retail Remedy: Le Bon Marché in Paris showcases the Eternellement Dior
We know how much Richard Nahem loves the Paris that he shares in his walking tours, and he will be tipping FocusOnStyle during Paris Fashion Week.
Designer John Galliano has been certainly in the news this week for his rather horrific alleged comments caught on a cell phone video. I’ve been interviewed a bit for my opinion on this …

New Hermes Store in Paris is Ultra Modern Luxury
Left Bank Hermes Store in Paris is Ultra Modern Luxury. Retail Remedy: Is it possible to outdo a classic? Hermés on the rue St. Honoré is my favorite luxury store in Paris. Hermés opened a new shop on the Left Bank in December, and it is a stunner. They have lightened their approach with an airy, loft-like space on three levels housed in the former Art Noveau swimming pool of the Lutetia Hotel. At the entrance is a flower shop bursting with buoyant blooms by florist Baptiste Pitou. Then comes the most dramatic part of the shop: A sweeping staircase made of curved strips of ash wood. Walking down the grand staircase one feels like a decadent showgirl– all that's missing is a feathered head dress and the song A Pretty Girl…. playing.>>MORE: Paris READ MORE »

Christmas Windows Paris- Chanel and Lanvin Holiday Displays
Christmas Windows Paris- Chanel and Lanvin Holiday Displays. Retail Remedy: Rag dolls & dogs make for whimsy rather than traditional holiday window displays. Not so traditional Christmas, c'est si bon! There's nothing that I love more on my walking tours of Paris than to spot the unexpected, especially during the holiday season. Take these whimsical windows, for instance…Okay, the windows at Lanvin are not your conventional Christmas windows by any stretch of the imagination. Instead of cutesy dancing bears and marionettes gaily prancing, there are dogs wearing top hats, spectacles, and bow ties and bald headed mannequins spattered in white paint. Nonetheless, I think they are the cats meow and the dog's bark. READ MORE »

Paris Chic Bicycles Are Rather Fun and Utalitarian
Somehow we would like to believe that the bikes in Paris are rather tzujed up glam affairs. But, no. More often than not, Parisians go for practicality rather than preciousness when it comes to getting around the city– always with a dash of French chic style, of course! Richard Nahem, observes…I recently started taking photos of bicycles around the city. They have a certain charm which is hard to describe. From the slick racers that are used in the Tour De France, to the beat up but tough spray painted bicycles to the delivery ones with baskets to the gray, to the utilitarian Velib rentals, they are a vital form of transport to get around the much trafficked rues of Paris. Not to mention that with the recent strikes they were the only reliable way to get from here to there READ MORE »
