N.Y.C. New York Color Glams Up Drugstore Make Up

Beauty Products Review: Cheap chic cosmetics

N.Y.C. New York Color is taking their line international and to celebrate its revamped launch they held a handful of intimate makeover sessions in a chic loft space in Manhattan, each session tailored to the skin tones and features of each woman present.

The fact that only four sessions were had, each with roughly 10-12 woman, made it feel very exclusive.

The week prior to the event I sent in a photo of myself so I could arrive to a customized makeup palette fit for my skin and eye coloring. That feature certainly added to the exclusivity and uniqueness of the evening!

My favorite take away from the makeup line was the Smooch Proof Lip Stain.

Incredible, I suggest everyone owning an array of colors because they really don’t smudge one bit and stay on ALL day, both to my surprise. I have never been one for lipsticks, but I have turned a new leaf and have been wearing one of my four shades of lip stain nearly every day. The bright red, Rock On Ruby, a color I never could see myself wearing, I have been rocking frequently. I no matter what I eat, drink or kiss…the color never comes off! My next favorite item, also in the lip department, is the clear Liquid Lip Shine. A great gloss to go over the Lip Stain and it has a nice scent. For softer color plus gloss there are color shades of the Liquid Lip Shine as well.

The High Definition Volume mascara, in the orange bottle, I have been using for a couple weeks now and am pleased. It has no clumps, doesn’t smudge or flake off, and the wand nicely separates my lashes. I am not a mascara connoisseur, I can’t say it’s better than other volumizing mascaras on the market, but it does a great job and for a great price.

I was very iffy about the foundations and the tinted moisturizer, these are not products I use and I worry about my skin not being able to breathe. I still won’t do a true foundation, but the tinted moisturizer, Skin Foundation Matching, is light and clean and does even out skin tone and texture. I haven’t used it allover, I find it blends fine if used only in needed areas. The only product of the line I wasn’t thrilled with was the Blush Creme Stick, that was mostly based on the colors they offered, none which seemed to look so good on my basic skin tone. No big deal, I am so impressed by the Lip Stain it beats out the blush any day!

For years I have been using NYC nail polish, they have great bright colors, and NYC eye shadows, also in a variety of colors.

The best thing about finding a good product is finding out you can buy it allover and that it is inexpensive. NYC Makeup is in basic drugstores around the country, and now around the globe, and the prices are unbeatable. Both make it perfect for impulse purchases such as turquoise eye shadow for $2.99! — Alix Kivlin
