Jean Paul Gaultier for Target is one of the more interesting collaborations to hit cheap chic

because there’s genius in the collaboration!

Jean Paul Gaultier knows how to work a crowd.

He’s been the downtown set’s designer for cool for some time. When you wore one of Gaultier’s pieces you know you you had arrived and were were part of the secret fashion society who could all recognize his designs by the little tab in the back. It’s hard to remember a photo shoot back in the 80’s where at least one person was not wearing something from Gaultier, myself included.

The clothes always had that out-there, avant-garde feel that was never trendy but ahead of the pack. In their own special way thay become timeless classics in your wardrobe, particularly the tailored pieces.

Then came the 90’s and with Madonna‘s cone bra, Gaultier instantly became an iconic part of pop culture.

Not to end the decade by resting on his laurels, Gaultier launched his haute couture collection in Paris. In 2000, he was presented the prestigious International Award by the CFDA .

Then came what was absolute genius and put French chic on its edge, Gaultier became the the designer at Hermes, replacing Martin Margiela, one of his former apprentices. BTW: To have Jean Paul Gaultier, Martin Margiela, and Hermes in the same sentence gives me palpitations of my most favorite fashionable kind.

Mixing high and low is really where it is at in terms of modern everyday dressing.

So now, we have a new development to the genius that is JPG with the Jean Paul Gaultier for Target collection. This is the one designer collaboration that not many saw coming and it’s unpredictability is what makes it so amazing. ‘My collection with Target pays homage to the wide range of personalities that make up the diverse styles of American woman,” said Jean Paul Gaultier.

The collection has a very young, fresh vibe so think of it as your starter set into the world of Jean Paul Gaultier or to mix with some collection pieces, and maybe a Birken bag or other Hermes goody… I might just consider that.
