Proenza Schouler F/W 2012

With the New York Fall 2012 collections coming to an end, it’s time to take a look back at the city’s most collectible collections with our round-up of the top four outings to consider when re-tooling your wardrobe for the season ahead.

Proenza Schouler-

Channeling 80′s French fashion, Proenza Schouler added a smart does of masculine tailoring and pretty Chinese elements used like we’ve never seen before to whip up one of the city’s best outings.

Color-blocked shirt dresses, crisp, detailed oxford shirts, Japanese inspired skirt suits and relaxed pleated trousers made for a winning line-up with a favorite look of the season being our lead photo.

That looks fluid use of leather and off-kilter fur collar instantly made the kind of statement that’s bound to attract the attention of cool girls everywhere looking for something grown up, distinctly elegant and original.

Altuzarra-

Most notably his strongest collection yet, Joseph Altuzarra’s Fall collection boasted rich elements that made it stand entirely on its own amongst a sea of prim & pretty outings from most of New York’s other designers.

That’s not to say that this collection itself is not pretty, its all that and then some…

What stood out was how controlled of an outing this was, and that it addressed the need for something new and lust worthy. Favorites included his animal print knits, the fresh proportion that shorts and knee-high boots produced and tiered pieces dripping with silver Morrocan coins.

Theyskens’ Theory-

Who can blame Olivier Theyskens for delving into his own visionary past at Nina Ricci for his latest collection for Theyskens’ Theory?

After all, his swan song at the label had a death defying militant urbanism to it that saw models elongated endlessly in ultra slick gear that conjured up 80′s Paris in it’s heady Alaia heyday while feeling completely new, and at Theory pricepoints, again, why not?

Touching upon that storied collection is destined to help elevate his prowess among New York’s friendlier priced labels along with must-have additions of leather and a snazzy assortment glittery knits.

Jil Sander Navy-

Natty, vaguely retro inspired pieces in soothing tones made for a clear outing from Jil Sander’s recently launched secondary line that referenced school girl primness in masterfully cut techno fabrications that are sure to strengthen the label’s reach amidst a younger set.

Bell shaped skirts combined with fitted sleeves lent the collection a gentile princess vibe that’s perfect for those looking to achieve that slightly naive charm that’s been having its moment as of late while a signature hand with deluxe foundational pieces gauranteed it a winner.

Best of all were the hybrid wedge loafers that instantly added a certain playful, tweaked out preppy attitude to the mix.
