DKNY Fall 2011 Runway Review

New York Fashion Week Highlight: Nice mid-thigh length to elongate the figure and paired with the pop color wide stripes it adds femininity to a menswear feel

The Fall 2011 DKNY collection is what all the cool kids on the street will be wearing and feeling comfortably confident in while keeping their edge.

Nicely paired color combinations of navy and camel with pops of pumpkin orange, poppy red and bright pink with a rich butternut brown, and of course black and white.

The line is very clean cut with lots of menswear details in the jackets, capes and hats worn by many of the models. Along with a touch of Brit thrown in via stripes, peter pan collars and the large plaids used.

Color blocking has been prominent on the runways and it’s certainly not stopping at DKNY. The navy and black cape is a great showcase of this as well as the pleated crepe du chine dresses.

Many of the coats, capes and cardigans fall at a nice mid-thigh length to elongate the figure and paired with the pop color wide stripes it adds femininity to a menswear feel.

A variegated stripe knit dress in navy and pumpkin could be worn in endless ways as well as all the ankle length slim trousers that give a rock n’ roll touch but again can be worn with structured or soft knit tops.

I would wear the LBD with it’s textured ruffles, sheer sleeves and white peter pan collar for a day into night look that’s simple and classic but the ruffles give it something extra.

DKNY never strays too far off the path, but there’s always enough to keep you interested and making it easy to buy and wear.

Besides the key pieces mentioned, it’s the color palette that has a fresh take on Fall. Alix Kivlin, words & photos
