Direct from Paris: Mens Style Spring 2014 Runway Trends & How to Wear them Now…

Judging by the last few uncharacteristically cool summers in Paris and London, the cities designers offered plenty of options for year-round wear. Not that that’s anything to complain about, minus the effects of climate change. Expect lots of leather and coats that at least stateside, you can save for fall.

    Retro Fisherman Sandals

Why wear it? If the look of fisherman sandals are too retro a la Carey Grant and the ilk, there are plenty of options out there that cover your foot more while still allowing for the benefits of breathing space. Plus they look great with socks and basic trousers and make for a comfortable alternative to less stylish summer sandals for men.

Blue, the color of the season-

True Blue Denim at Valentino S/S 2014

True Blue Denim at Valentino S/S 2014

Seen at: Shade of a blue season at Lanvin, Dior Homme, Miharayasuhiro, Hermes

Why wear it? It was a blue moment on almost every runway as many outings boasted a blue passage in shades from dreamy to decadent. Our favorite takes were Valentino’s ultra deluxe denim suits and sportswear. Something that refined but cool will help you standout without extending yourself too far.

Black & White, and the absence of color-

    Black & White at Balmain S/S 2014

Seen at: Kenzo, Opening Ceremony,  Ann Demeulemeester, Balmain

Why wear it? We’ve been saying it for a few seasons, and you’ve probably kept it as a go-to the entire time. But on the runways at least, black & white has made a big comeback after seasons of over saturated hues. But that’s not to say you can’t have fun and find something new in black & white. The trick here is to look for uniquely modern updates, such as Balmain’s sophisticated moto-tux hybrid.

    Florals, in Paris too!-

Seen at: Tropical at Paul & Joe and Ami, wallpaper at Sacai and 3.1 Phillip Lim for a wild mix of prints and magnified at Ann Demeulemeester

Why wear it? What became clear in Milan last week made for a major trend again in Paris with floral blooms of all type taking center stage. Best of all, Parisian labels managed to conjure a whole array of characters kitted up in botanicals. From sporty to dandy to street, you should easily be able to adapt the trend to suit your own style.

    Digital Techno Prints-

Seen at: Givenchy, Sacai, Kenzo, Julien David

Why wear it? From Givenchy’s African inspired urbane collection of heavy optical prints to Sacai and 3.1 Phillip Lim’s techno takes, maximal prints are heavy on rotation. Use witty printed pieces in fresh colorways to add a sense of clever play to even the most classic of looks.
