“NEW MOON ” Collection

If there ever was a collection destined for the stars of the red carpet, Mr. Armani’s ‘New Moon’ would be it. If only so the wearer of the gowns would pose to grant us the lingering moments to reflect the exquisite beauty and other-worldy construction of these radiant and luminescent gowns. Bravo!

In their words…

GIORGIO ARMANI PRIVE / NEW MOON COLLECTION / SPRING – SUMMER 2010 / PARIS COUTURE FASHION WEEK

Shimmering starlight. Luminous radiance. Ultimate whiteness. Icy reflections. Lightness that defies the laws of gravity. Attracted by the pull of the moon, Giorgio Armani explores a pale new universe, tinged with the glow of silver and mother of pearl, a world where spheres and quarters symbolise lunar phases, and the substance and fluidity of the lightweight fabrics recall the surface of the moon itself.

Totally white, with traces of pink as subtle as the aurora borealis and a shade of green as cool as the deep ice, this collection favours a line that is precisely designed and strongly executed: significant shoulders with a rounded profile; fitted trousers which open out at the hem; collars, turn ups, circular capes, often fastened with a half moon brooch. Double crepe in wool or silk gives a compact quality to the crisp profile of the body, emphasised by piping in crinoline along the outer edges and on the inner surface of the jackets and shirts, to showcase the geometric perfection of the cut and seams.

Paying homage, in the words of Pink Floyd, to “The Dark Side of the Moon” plain black cocktail dresses interrupt the procession of whites where the all over embroidery creates a luminescent effect.

A final coup de theatre: evening dresses with extravagantly full skirts in silk with nylon and lurex threads or in a jacquard of plastic materials. As light as a moon beam.
