By now it’s no secret that we are big fans of the studied femininity the duo behind Valentino keep churning out with collections rife with wearable, yet covered up clothing so proper, it has a modern preciousness to it.

What they continue to excel at is taking the stiffness out of couture garb that ultimately gives it a fresh, relaxed sensibility that while naive, is at the same time precise, seductively classical and feels just right.

And that’s quite an enviable, remarkable accomplishment. Fresh perspectives from an institution, that make sense for today while justifying a purchase seem all the more elusive after the dour recent debuts we saw at Dior and Saint Laurent.

What stood out here was a pairing down of the dolly girl, princess shapes with a bulk of the collection having more strength in daytime options. From smart blouses to lacy slip dresses and tuxedo details, the ingredients in the mix were all familiar, but considerably rethought.

Streamlined in the season’s noir hue, quiet elegance was the key element that made this outing a standout offering for those looking for romantic takes on modern dressing.
