Runway Review: What to wear when life is your red carpet

I don’t know about you, but I have certainly gotten tired of looking at overdone "Princess" fantasy dresses worn by celebrities on the red carpet. They are ostentatious dresses that often wear the wearer rather than spotlight her total beauty.

I’m all for a bit of eccentricity and quirkiness, but when everyone wears the same quirky big number, it all looks the the same.

For me, those over-the-top dresses look like a young girl’s small town dream of what a "fancy" dress should be rather than an elegant ideal of what a real grown-up woman should wear when she has the opportunity to glam it up.

Then there is Edition by Georges Chakra.

The Spring 2011 collection presented at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York has a definite European sensibility of sophistication that is both timeless and ageless, and very wearable.

Edition by Georges Chakra

This is the couturier’s (as in haute not Juicy) 4th outing in New York with his Edition by Georges Chakra ready-to-wear line that he defines as modern glamour that celebrates a woman’s body.

The collection is far more beautiful in its intricate details and expert draping than these photos present.

Basket weave bodices, architectural cuts that work with the wearer’s figure, expertly draped liquid lame jerseys all have the certain "movie star" allure of the charmeuse draped dresses of the 1930’s that still look timeless today.
