Fall 2010 Fashion Forecast New York
Fall fashion trend predictions for what to expect on the New York runways this week
Fall fashion trend predictions for what to expect on the New York runways this week
Trend forecaster Stylesight share fashion predictions.
Pre-fall is a pretty good barometer of what will be full-out fashion on the fall runways. Combine that with industry intuitiveness, a bit of fashion prescience, and maybe a crystal ball and you think you have an idea of what designers will be showing on the catwalks.
Stylesight’s forecasting experts– yes, we know it is a dream job- have been deep in observation about what trends we’ll see storming the NY, Paris, London and Milan runways during F/W 10 Fashion Week. They’ve gathered a few ideas of what we can expect from the designers. Let’s see how they fare.
Pre-Fall Inspiration: Jason Wu (pictured above), Pringle
"There is a movement away from pattern mixing and novelty, toward clothes that can be worn again and again. More of a cleaner, more timeless approach. Neutral colors, quality workmanship, versatile pieces that can be worn in a variety of ways — a leather tunic can be a vest, a minidress, a layering piece over pants or leggings, an outerwear garment, etc."

Pre-Fall Inspiration: Alexander Wang, Rick Owens
"There is more authenticity in design, more craft in workmanship, and a tougher, more androgynous attitude, expressing a hip, confident sexiness."

Pre-Fall Inspiration: Narciso Rodriguez, Givenchy
"Clothes that are collectible, rather than classic, and in that way fit in with the idea of lasting fashion or items that have "legs"."
Pre-Fall Inspiration: Missoni, Oscar de la Renta
On the flip side of all the cleaned up minimalism or androgyny is an individualist, self-expressive approach, mixing the offbeat opulence of 20th century fashion eccentrics like the Marchesa Luisa Casati with the luxe bohemianism of London’s Biba era, all worn with freeform, glamour-meets-grunge, feel."
Pre-Fall Inspiration: Celine, Michael Kors
"A new Modernism, based more on true design and silhouette — whether it is rounded, A-line, cylindrical — than on retro or ethnic references. Sturdier fabrics, including heavy linens, smooth leathers, and experimental synthetics, that are meant to wear well and to get better with age."
