Red Carpet Glamour Is Only a Day Away. Hollywood Oscar Fashion Review 2007

To some this year, the Oscars may be wrapped up as one night only, but its dream girls fashion reach is pandemic.

As part of the festivities in the run-up to this year’s Oscar telecast, Vogue editor-at-large André Leon Talley, who will also be the voice of fashion for the red carpet arrivals segment “Road to the Oscars,” curated “A Celebration of Oscar Fashion” retrospective of the best and most elegant gowns worn by nominees, winners and presenters at the Academy Awards over the red carpet loving years.

How fun is it to see original photos of the stars wearing the gorgeous gowns and then a model today walking the catwalk in the same dress? Although the great style of these dazzling gowns endures, it’s the star power of the original wearer that makes them spectacular.

While we’re ogling the stunning Oscar fashion retrospective and thinking of what were the great Oscar fashion moments for us, there is some speculation as to what some of the stars will be wearing for tomorrow’s Academy Awards.

According to TheEnvelope.com, Best Actress Oscar frontrunner Helen Mirren will wear a gown designed by Christian LaCroix. Oscar presenter Reese Witherspoon will wear a purple Nina Ricci gown, on the word of her contract with the house— this way there will be no fashion faux pas surprises of her wearing a vintage dress that had previously worn by Kirsten Dunst. Best Actress Oscar nominee Penelope Cruz is reportedly, but as yet unconfirmed, going to wear Dior. No news on color or cut.

The color we do know about is the backstage greenroom at the 79th Annual Academy Awards. It will not be green, but instead will be Pantone Paints 19-0912, a chocolate brown chosen by the interior designer team Matthew White and Frank Webb of White Webb. Stay tuned.
