  • Yes, I’m telling you to wear ugly shoes! Spring Comfort Shoes are not just for the schlumpy set

Spring comfort shoes mark a trend that’s worth taking from the runway…

Finally, in style and practical options are here! Ok, some will call them ugly. Let’s just say they’re stylishly ugly (how’s that for a fashionable oxymoron?).

After years of seeing girlfriends in freakishly tall platform heels and wearing confining yet proper shoes myself, I for one am on board with what’s been coming down the runway, and you should be too. Might I add, this is one throwback I’m willing to try as the comfort shoe trend is just as easy as it sounds.

    >>Back to Basics: The Return of The Chic Sneaker

Back in the 90′s, it was a big departure from my preppy phase to go somewhat athletic. It wasn’t until Helmut Lang championed the pool slide in the heat of minimalism, that something so everyday felt easily cool. And among all of the rehashing of his hits today’s designers have been giving a go, this is one rerun worth mastering.

At the time I wore discreet black matte leather Birkenstocks (something ten years ago I took as a ‘regret’) with full leg black trousers and black and white tops while this time around I’ve opted for real deal Addidas striped pool slides (just $25 bucks!) that are on par with the oh-so-discreet styles of today.  This season I’ve been dressing them up a bit with black socks and skinny pants. And my feet are getting a much overdue break.

And though I’ve got an issue with wanting to look my age as I can look much younger and carefully plot where I wear my slides, there’s some friendlier options in the walking shoe category to consider that look right for now. The main trick then as is today, is to avoid wearing them with athletic clothes unless you are en route to the gym.

    Sneakers Rethought-

As I’ve mentioned earlier this spring, trainers in unexpected hues and deluxe finishes add a functional sensibility to even the hautiest of looks. I’ve also been wearing mine for the extra 1″ plus boost they give me in height. New Balance 574 Classic Trainers and the adidas Stan Smith sneakers, pictured above, have renewed style interest.

    Hi-Tops, The Timeless Constant-

A pair of black Converse Chuck Taylor’s have been a major element of paired down dressing through the times, but it wasn’t until I saw a girl pair her’s with a shrunken, fitted black suit that I thought they could help turn heads. CONVERSE ALL STAR High-top sneakers pictured above.

    Slip-On Vans Styles-

Another new spring shoe I’m excited to wear is the deluxe slip on skate shoe. I’ve opted for black matte satin ones, and think they make for a quirky alternative for when you are looking to dress up this summer. Want to go glam? Try a metallic slip on from Lanvin, St. Laurent or Margiela. The Vince ‘Blair 8′ Slip-On Sneaker in chic oyster are pictured above.
