How To Get 24-Hour Holiday Style
Worse off, there’s the lot that thinks "festive dress" means donning a sweater festooned with three-dimensional characters, glowing snowflakes, and Santa and his helpers leaping off their chest in a frenetic statement that screams, "I’m wearing this stupid sweater because I have no clue about style!"
All you need to do is add an element of formal to everyday clothing to master 24-hour holiday style. I’ve been inspired by something that Sarah Jessica Parker wore the other night as a panelist on The Art of Creation- rich red velvet blazer, white skinny t-shirt, black cigarette capris, and fabu heels. Basta! Clean tailored lines, simple color palette, non-fussy dressy details mixed with everyday styleů there you have it, 9 to 5 to nighttime chic.
Casual, understated classics cut in simple of-the-moment silhouettes are easier to style-up than something that’s overly complicated or embellished to begin with.
Add a lacy shirt to flannel pants. Wear a silky bustier under your black tailored pantsuit. Try a strapless top with a slim skirt. Add on something that might be a bit too-too for work, like net hose, embroidered boots, a fun purse instead of that logo bag, a huge faux cocktail ring and dramatic red nails, or a cute rhinestone wrap braceletů and, you’ve instantly turned the clock ahead to evening style! High heels automatically make everything even dressier. (Wolford Sixties Tights at eLUXURY.com)
Wear makeup! Suddenly spell razzle-dazzle with a streak of pale iridescent eye shadow or dark kohl lined eyes. Gloss-up lips or add a rich berry stain. And, for glamour’s sake, wear perfume!
Do something different to your hair that morningůif it’s normally wavy, get a good blow-dry and wear it straight. If you favor a pixie cut, add some gel and funk it up. If you usually slick your hair back in a neat ponytail, put a curling iron to the test and wear your hair long and wavy.
When in doubt, be boldů it’s a party, stop deliberating and go have fun!
