Home Town Style: They do Christmas big in Brooklyn

Dyker Heights takes holiday decoration to new heights… Growing up in Brooklyn, NY, I was always amazed at the extensive holiday house decorations in some areas of the borough– too much was never enough to create a holiday wonderland on the front lawn. Friend and now Brooklyn resident, Mark Moskin of Salient Design photographs some of the most outrageous and brilliant Christmas house decorations around. Mark shares his shot of a “classic” house done up in true Dyker Heights style– a fave to date. True to the ‘Brooklyn does it betta’ motto… enjoy!   Photo credit: ©2005 Mark Moskin/SalientDesign.com   –December 25, 2008

What to wear while traveling to a different climate… Seasonless and comfy clothes to wear on a plane

What to wear while traveling to a different climate… Seasonless and comfy clothes to wear on a plane I am going on holiday in January-- leaving the UK in winter and arriving in Mexico in the hot sunshine. It's a 10- hour flight so I want to be comfortable while sitting on the plane but also look stylish and smart as we are flying 1st class. I appear young for my age as I'm 46 years old but usually pass for being 40. I don't want to dress too young, but not middle aged either. I'm pretty tall at 5'9" and have a slim figure. Please help me out with some of your fashion recommendations for what to wear while

Letters to the Editor on uncovering the appeal of fake fur

Letters to the Editor Readers respond to our suggestion on recycling fur yesterday here: THANKS for the GREAT column /article about fake fur and how it is the way to go, rather than wearing real animal fur. Good job!! You have a new fan/devotee. -S.W. (Woodbury, CT) Yay! To Slamming Real Fur! I love your message of not be cruel to be cool. It shows to people that they don't have wear a real animal's coat to be "in", but that they can fake the real look. This is totally cool. Cruelty is not right and I think you should publish more articles like this. Thanx -O.S.(Linclon Park, MI) I agree that killing animals for their fur is creepy--and I get frustrated with fur

Perfectly imperfect up-do’s

Upswept Hair- Styling tips and hairstyle photos for fantastic holiday and big night updo hairstyles: Big night hairstyles have never looked so good with our special hair styling tips by Eiji Yamane and the Eiji Salon. Dear Sharon: I'm looking for a simple way to explain to my hairstylist exactly how I would like my upsweep hairstyle to look for an upcoming special occasion. I live in the Midwest and it is often difficult to convey my styling suggestions to my hairdresser. It seems that every time I ask for a pretty updo hairstyle, I end up walking out with a stiff, old fashioned helmet that reminds me of bad prom hair. I've gone the route of bringing hair photos of
