Cher-ing Style… What to Wear to Look Hip at a Concert

Q. I am distraught!

I'm going to a Cher concert in August, here in Houston Texas and have not been to a concert in twenty years. I don't know what's in fashion as I am a stay-at-home mom of a 4 year old and 1 year old.

I am 39 and I feel I have kept my body up okay but probably could use a new makeover. My main concern is not looking like I am still stuck in the 80's or 90's. I want to blend in, not necessarily stand out. Any help, please?? (Damon, TX)

A. Sweetness, do as Cher does: Make the most of what you've got and forget about the rest! I was at the NYC concert and the audience ranged from people who looked as if they just bolted their backyard BBQ, to the fashion savvy, to wannabe Chers (see photos). But, why not just concentrate on you?

Glad you're still in good shape, that's half the battle. But being a stay-at-home mom is a poor excuse for letting your self-image go to pot. Your kids won't hate you if you take a breather from them for a short while and exercise your confidence-building options.

Sounds as if you need to get a babysitter or hit some stores during kiddy's naptime and find a few things that make you feel good about yourself. If you went out more, you'd see that dressing for a concert is really not a big deal: Wear what you would wear for any other casual, clubby kind of night out.

What you need to do is to make time to have a date with your mate and see what's going on outside of the sandbox. Take in some of the energy of the outside world and bring it back into your life.
