Non-surgical face-lift
to renew skin contours…
Thermage reduces the signs of aging skin
I’ve had a stressful year and my face is showing it. I feel like I’ve developed
a turkey neck and have lost elasticity in my skin. It’s not a huge
amount of droop, but just enough to try to stop before it sags some more.
I’m really
not interested in cosmetic surgery or any other invasive procedures.
Although, I desperately want to look better, I don’t want to look
different like so many of the aging celebrities who suddenly look like
“refreshed” aliens. My friend had mentioned a treatment called
Thermage and was interesting in learning more about it. (Tempe, AZ)
The fear alone of possibly resembling a freeze-frame alien who landed on a red
carpet is enough to give me the heebie-jeebies. I totally understand your
concerns about going under the knife or using injectables to
combat the war on
looking older than your years. Avoiding the sun,
taking care of your skin,
eating healthfully, and staying fit should go unsaid as the best ways to
maintain a fresh appearance.
But sometimes, we need more…
”Thermage turns back the clock a bit, but not the face of the clock,” notes
Stephen P. Bracci, MD, a Board Certified Laser Surgeon and the Medical
Director and Founder of the VERVE® Skin Laser Centers, one of New York’s
only laser centers to operate directly under a Board Certified physician. With
Thermage, “you are not putting anything in or taking anything out, and it is
not as aggressive as plastic surgery”. Dr. Bracci adds, “Everyone can
go out to dinner. There’s minimal down time and it very rarely causes swelling”.
In essence, a non-surgical face-lifting experience!
The non-surgical facelift renews facial contours and tightens skin in
moderation; therefore people look better, but not different. According to Dr.
Bracci, after a skin rejuvenation procedure, you gradually begin to see the
outcome, with results most evident in 2-4 months, and some sooner with outcome
lasting about 2 -3 years.

The incision-free Thermage device reduces the signs of ageing skin, by
tightening skin and stimulating new collagen growth with the heat from radio
frequency waves while the outer layer of skin is simultaneously protected with a
cooling spray. The Thermage website states that the heating of collagen to
critical temperatures, launches a natural biological reaction that causes the
collagen to contract and thicken. This process, called denaturation, provides
the initial results of tighter, smoother looking skin.
According to a study published in the June/July issue of the Facial Plastic
Surgery Journal, visual contouring changes that are unique to the Thermage
Procedure are better explained by the selective heating and tightening of the
fibrous “threads” that run through the fat. Dr. Bracci notes that the heating of
deep tissue to cause shrinkage of the skin results in a natural-looking and
uniform appearance as opposed to plastic surgery’s tightening of the skin in
one direction.
