With more than seven million books in circulation in 17 languages, Babar, first written and illustrated by Jean de Brunhoff, then continued by his son, Laurent who has since created and published 30 Babar books of his own, began as a bedtime story and turned into a modern children’s classic.

In honor of the celebration, two of Laurent’s popular books, Babar and the Wully-Wully and Babar and the Ghost are being reissued. The animated Babar television series airs in more than 100 countries and in the U.S. on HBO. Babar – King of the Elephants movie is based on the series.
