Beat Winter Blahs With the Colors of Summer in Provence

At the hump of the new year and with the let down of holiday hoopla and the start of winter dreariness, we are all ready for the next vacation, although most of us cannot break away.

Let us take you to a place of calm and sunniness by way of Richard Nahem‘s  photo gallery of the Market in Eygalieres, Provence, France.

This isn’t just an exercise in gorgeous escapism, I WANT YOU TO THINK LIKE A DESIGNER. Look at the magnificent play of these natural colors and consider how you can incorporate them into your wardrobe, home, your life.

Who needs manufactured color experts, when the greatest “expert”of can be found in nature?

Decadendant neon by way of these hand-made straw bags with just the right amount of brightness to be flattering.

The photos swell with rich brights, bursts of neon, and dusty pales… all on trend at the moment, look at the play of them against the enlivened neutrals in their environment! Look at these colors, look at your wardrobe, your home, and let your imagination go wild. GET INSPIRED, and take that voyeuristic vacation chill pill too.. - S.H.

Market in Eygalieres

It’s been gray and dreary the last week and I have been feeling the January blahs a little. I thought I would cheer myself up and all of you who live in wintery, cold places with summertime photos of Provence I took on my last visit to the magnificent countryside in France.

I had the good fortune of being invited to stay in a friend’s 12th century farmhouse in September 2009 in the small, hilltop village of Eygalieres, a few kilometers from St. Remy de Provence.

A splash of these colors in your home with add some summer cheer. Think: pillows, bedding, and even a wall color!

The ancient village is more than charming and the Friday morning market far exceeded my expectations of what a market in Provence could be like.

The dusty pales of these yummy sweets are fantastic when paired with the earthy darker shades.

The brilliant sunshine made everything sparkle and the rich visuals matched the pungent smells of golden olives, lavender, spicy, dried sausage, milled soaps, melons, garlic, and local cheeses.

Enjoy and savor this breath of Provence summer today and get color inspiration from my Provence photo gallery. –Richard Nahem
