Love the crazy way Jean Paul Gaultier put his signature nautical stripes on wacky, cool furniture

For the last two years Elle Decor has selected a fashion designer to decorate the former apartment of Jacques Carlu at the Cité de Architecture. This year the chosen is Jean Paul Gaultier, proceeding Christian Lacroix and Martin Margiela.

Jean Paul Gaultier has brought his usual whimsical and sometimes kitschy style to the 2,400 sq. ft. space atop the museum.

Sort of an optical illusion

Enter the vestibule and you find his signature marine blue and white stripes covering the walls and furniture but the stripes are askew in certain spots making it an optical illusion.

Lushness abounds

In the center two storied room is a lush, green garden with rusted wrought iron chairs.

Glass tables helps the optical illusion

I found the outside display of architecturally shaped mirrored sculptures fascinating, a modern day take on fun house mirrors and the endless reflections coming off of them were a feast for my camera.

Insane & fab doll pops up in the middle of the bed

The bedroom looks like pure Italian grandmother straight from Bay Ridge Brooklyn with a white satin quilted bedspread and big haired doll in the middle.
The only thing that marred the installation was the dropped ceiling with the harsh spotlights and I don’t know if Gaultier had those intentionally put in. – Richard Nahem, The Paris Insider
