London Fashion Week Gossip Recap- From the legacy of Alexanader McQueen to Mark Ronson’s fete, my tipster has the dish

The Alexander McQueen legacy is coming to New York City on May 4th, The Box makes it to London and is graced with the like’s of bad boy Damien Hirst, Kate Moss, Tilda Swinton and Daphne Guinness! London Fashion Week proves to be filled with lots of Tartan…

As Season 2 of “The Real Housewives of New York City” is airing in England, I’m getting an extra dose of dish from the other side of the pond.

One of the pleasures of being the contributing editor at large here at FocusOnStyle is that I get all the really cool news from my tipsters around the world.

This just in: “Savage Beauty”, the upcoming exhibition to honor the brilliance of the late and irreplaceable Alexander McQueen, opens May 4th at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum.

Andrew Bolton has curated the show and his passion for tracking down McQueen’s most important works won’t disappoint. I’m told there are a lot of empty closets. McQueen’s jewelry will also be featured. You can count on Focus on Style to cover the gala event and give you all the fabulous news. There’ll be one amazing guest list.

I would assume that Alexander and Isabella Blow surely would love all the drama surrounding the mounting of this show; and trust me, there has been major drama. My source tells me the line-up and placement of the private pieces on loan is like a chess game. One wrong move and you are out! Prick up your ears Scotland Yard! The claws are out and hair will be flying!

Mark Ronson got the crowd on their feet at the Box, a back-alley transplant from London’s Soho district, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of ‘Another’ magazine hosted by Kate Moss and Tilda Swinton.

The turn out was impressive.

Kirsten Dunst and Damien Hirst were seated with my tipster who texted me. The ever-omnipresent Daphne Guinness, wrapped in gold lame shimmered as always. She was wrapped arm and arm with Kate. The sun was coming up as guests were leaving. Now, that’s a lot of Red Bull, ladies and gentleman!
London fashion has always been one of my favorites with the likes of Julien MacDonald and his edgy designs made of cobweb knits and tartan chiffon. There was more black lace than in a funeral parlor. MacDonald’s expertise in tailoring is so superb. His fall 2011 collection really is a stand alone. You’ve got to check it out! Hats off to Julien.

The general feeling coming out of London fashion week seems to be a street-edgy, club-culture throw back to the early 80s with short skirts and ragged hem lines. The collections are bursting with prints, texture, and tartans. Let’s hope that eighties hair doesn’t make a come back as well! And how was your day? –Brad Boles
