How to get out of a rut [LIVE video]

How to get out of a rut
I decided to do an impromptu Facebook Live on Friday because I keep getting asked about how to get out of a rut. Actually, I wasn't directly asked. It's that the real answer to so many little, piecey questions drills deeper than the surface of "what dress to I wear," "what shoe do I wear," but rather it's getting in touch with your core values of what inspires you. Without fully living a life with eyes wide open you are capping your inspiration, you are holding yourself back from moving forward, you are cutting yourself off from the joy that is all around us. When I talk to many women in flux during a Get Style call I notice that they have

Secrets To My Leadership Style

Wanna talk leadership style? You're in for a special treat. It's not often that I talk about the behind the scenes of my business and my leadership style. Running a business is just as chic to me as a pair of shoes. So this time I pulled back the curtain to reveal what not only makes my business tick but my style of leadership that has allowed me to be a successful entrepreneur for the past three decades. You'll also learn about what I call my "two-headed monster" as I'm equally versed in business as in style. I hold a degree in marketing and a black belt in shopping. If you are the face of your brand, an entrepreneur, coach or

Business Style Update: Three Ways to Upgrade Your Style Now Even If Fashion Is Not Your Thing

I was at a business retreat this weekend with fellow women entrepreneurs who suddenly found themselves in the spotlight. Sounds great, right? Nope. These otherwise smart, savvy and successful women looked like deer in headlights when it came to how they present themselves.  Simply because they never really thought about it before. It just was not their thing. And now, they felt insecure, irrelevant, inappropriate and out of touch. It doesn't have to be that way. Even if style doesn't come naturally to you, looking pulled together and relevant is mandatory if you want to be perceived as someone who has made it in your profession. Style can be intimidating if  you're afraid to take the chance. It’s so easy to

New Eyes… from the top of One World

Sometimes you need to be a tourist in your own town. Sometimes you need to see the world through a new lens. Sometimes you need to do something different just to see how other people see it. Today, my family and I visited One World Trade that towers 1,776 feet above New York.  The view from the observation deck is beyond spectacular. It undoubtably puts you in awe of the everyday sights that you take for granted from below. Just take a look at the quick video I posted on Instagram, below. Your Personal Style In A Time of Life Transitions

Top 3 ways to know when to transition your style as you move along in your life It's been a heady transformative week at my house for sure. My son received early acceptance to his first choice college! I'm beyond thrilled that his hard work paid off and he will have the opportunity to have the advanced education so that my crazy talented kid can live out his dream of becoming a feature filmmaker. The absolute joy is palatable as not only is his major highly competitive but it is also the university where my father proudly graduated so emotions are going full circle. Okay, I have to also admit that as a family, we are also rather relieved that

The Iconic Style of Jacqueline de Ribes: The Art of Style at The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Growing up I was always inspired by the style of Jacqueline de Ribes. I would tear through the society pages in my mother's Women's Wear Daily and amidst all the socialites photographed at charity functions and black tie events, one woman would grab my attention like no other. Countess Jacqueline de Ribes with her regal profile, long neck and volumes of dark hair, model slim figure and unmeasurable poise was a beacon of authentic style... a woman who knew how to make the most of what she's got in the truest form of iconic style. The Costume Institute is at The Metropolitan Museum of Art is honoring her style in the special Jacqueline de Ribes: The Art of Style costume exhibition

My 5 steps for getting through holiday madness with ease

Best Of The Holidays... I thought it would be a good time for a little (life)style motivation.    A time to take ten and nurture ourselves when it seems like there isn't a slot left on the calendar to even think about it. The end of the year is usually a jam-packed time around here, as it is, I am sure for most of you. Sometimes, I feel like one of my fancy dressed lady ornaments hanging on my tree. The ones right next to the kooky creatures, western wildlife and bejeweled poodles. You see, we celebrate both Chanukah and Christmas, my son's birthday falls in this month, as well as our wedding anniversary, and we leave NYC for our

Color of the Year- Rose Quartz and Serenity for 2016

Pantone announced its color of the year and for 2016, it's all about Rose Quartz and Serenity. The colors are all about calm and mindfulness as opposed to the richer Marsala, last year's color of the year. So, pack up your brights, the trend colors are all about muted pales for next year! Or, reworking pales you already have or can find on the sale rack, like the outfit pictured right. MORE: Posts about Color Watch the Pantone inspiration video below and you'll see the origin of this softer color trend. https://www.youtube.com/embed/AAJ1vPe4w2c   As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern day stresses, welcoming colors that psychologically fulfill our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more

Easy Thanksgiving Holiday Recipes… because who wants to waste time in the kitchen?!

Whats' cooking at my house! Smells so good that I thought I'd share my Thanksgiving recipes with you  with some behind-the-scenes photos while I'm cooking!   For me, style is a lot like cooking.  You start with the best ingredients and the rest is easy. That's a main premise in the C'est Chic Crash Course- it's not about being precise, it's about having the know-how to instinctively get it together.  I'm not a fan of the typical turkey dinner with lot's of heavy food and sugar. So, here's my twist:Roasted Herb Turkey Breast-Made with what's in the house herbs mostly fresh, some dried. Thyme, Sage Rosemary, chopped garlic, dried Greek oregano, tri-color pepper, Himalayan sea salt, 2 kinds of parsley, cilantro,

Personal Branding 101: What about those phonies?

Style + Success: Let's get real for a moment, please... After all, it's about you. So let's get into personal branding 101. Have you ever dreamingly followed an online lifestyle guru, marketing coach or business mentor who appears to have both a "perfect" life and an enviable thriving business? She surely must have the magic touch from the stream of manufactured social media and personal branding images on her web site. Perfect-istas are usually recognizable by their soft focus social media photos of them decadently biting a cupcake (if they're American), or a macaroon (if they're wannabe French). Perfectly positioned next to the sinful sugary treat is a well-lit green smoothie waiting to be consumed from a mason jar. A gastronomic oxymoron of

My Top 3 Tips to Be A Successful MOMpreneur if you want to work from home

This photo is how long I have been in the Mompreneur business! In mom terms, FocusOnStyle has been online from onesies to 6'4"!  Just think that when the docs said that my newborn son was in the 95th percentile for height, we didn't believe them. Now look at my tall baby! As we are entering the college application process around here, it got me reflecting  about what it takes to run a successful home-based business and still have time to spend with your child. I'm just starting to toy with Periscope (tips to follow me at the end), and although this replay is not looking as profesh as I would like, it does have the raw authentic realness that livestreaming
