Patriotic Inspirations…
Fall 2001 Fashion Trends
September 24, 2001
As a New Yorker, with each blow of the north wind, there's no escaping the September 11th tragedies. As a free world, we share in our collective grief.
Ironically, Fall 2001 fashion's prescience reflects upon our
patriotic
inspirations. Open your wallet to help those in
need, then pick up a trend and strut your sentiment with pride, courage, unity, and strength.
Americana- The American flag continues to be a force to be reckoned with as a fashion inspiration. From top designers to great knock-offs,
red, white, blue, star, and stripe patterns prevail.
NYC Rules-
Particularly, "I Love NY" t-shirts, a cheesy remnant from the seventies have been on a trend upswing for a while since teen queens have taken a scissor and deconstructed the tight T's into little bits of style.
Military Chic- Ne'er a fashion runway missed the military look. From camouflage prints, sailor stripes, to unbelievable olive drab tailoring the military brat rocks. Unless you are about to enlist, don't go total
troop trend, just the nuance please. Hate designer shops? The local army and navy store has fashion o'plenty, if you have an open eye.
Stud Puppy- Hard-edged
punk rock influence from studded handbags and belts to industrial zippers play up the tough girl "don't mess with me"
rock star image. And right now, no one wants to be messed with. Style on.
