What to wear while traveling to a different climate… Seasonless and comfy clothes to wear on a plane

What to wear while traveling to a different climate… Seasonless and comfy clothes to wear on a plane I am going on holiday in January-- leaving the UK in winter and arriving in Mexico in the hot sunshine. It's a 10- hour flight so I want to be comfortable while sitting on the plane but also look stylish and smart as we are flying 1st class. I appear young for my age as I'm 46 years old but usually pass for being 40. I don't want to dress too young, but not middle aged either. I'm pretty tall at 5'9" and have a slim figure. Please help me out with some of your fashion recommendations for what to wear while

What to wear with red… Matching shoes to a bold color suit

What to wear with red… Matching shoes to a bold color suit I have been debating this fashion question for a while with some friends. When you wear a cherry red suit with white trim, should you wear a pair of matching red or white shoes? What color stockings should you wear with the shoes? (Santa Rosa Heights, Arima) Although red is the hot color of the season, it appears as if you are fairly conservative in your dress and not that much of a fashion risk taker. Therefore, I really doubt that you want to start to parade around looking like a candy can by wearing overtly matchy-matchy red and white. Think out of the box when it comes

Pantyhose update… The fashion ins and outs of hosiery trends

Pantyhose update… The fashion ins and outs of hosiery trends Is it true that no one wears pantyhose any more? My stepdaughter, who lives in Los Angeles, says she has not worn pantyhose in years. I think I would be cold not wearing pantyhose in the winter in Massachusetts. And, what about professional work and dressing up-- do bare legs apply there too?(Wilmington, MA) I see that you live outside of Boston-- a major yet fairly conservative city—so, how is it that in almost a decade you have not noticed that sheer nude hose has been a fashion faux pas? It really is amazing to me that this late in the game; you've finally come to notice the bare leg

Wearing brown and black… Rules are for fools when it comes to men’s fashion

Wearing brown and black… Rules are for fools when it comes to men's fashion Alright, so I have a friend who professes that the brown with black rule for fashion is completely outdated. He said that its roots actually lie with royalty wearing black and lower classes wearing brown, and never the two shall meet. So, I was just wondering if it is okay to ditch the rule, as long as the accessories are the same? Thanks! (Radford, VA) Your pal needs far more than some fashion enlightening. I think you should ditch the twit and tell him not to come back until he gets some class. Or perhaps tell Mr. Biggety to limit his attire to an a-hole friendly

Surgical Shoe Nightmare… Dressing up a cast for your foot

Surgical Shoe Nightmare… Dressing up a cast for your foot I just had foot surgery to remove a bone spur from my foot and have to wear a clunky surgical cast shoe until my foot heels. I'm attending my brother-in-law's wedding and want to look chic even though I have the burden of wearing this monster of a big, black surgical shoe. My fear is that I look awkward and less stylish with this ugly, post-operative boot. I am not in the wedding party so I have some leeway as to what I'm wearing and was planning on wearing a fierce, above the knee, rose-colored pink sleeveless dress with matching jacket. Do I ditch this fashionable outfit for something longer

How to wear pinstripes… Go for the unexpected and add feminine details

How to wear pinstripes… Go for the unexpected and add feminine details I bought a pair of cropped pants that are grayish black with mint green pinstripes. What color top would I be able to wear with them? I have a ribbed cream top. Would that go ok or should I go with a black top instead? Also, would I wear black flats? (Menasha, WI) Should've, would've, could've you done better? Talk about needing to think out of the box, sweetie darling, gray and cream could not be a more dull color combination. Why go for boiled potatoes when you can have Lyonnaise? At least, you asked for help. When wearing pinstripes, the hot menswear inspired pattern, you want to

How to care for leather clothing… Tips to keep leather and suede apparel in the best shape

How to care for leather clothing… Tips to keep leather and suede apparel in the best shape I recently purchased a classic trench coat in rich dark brown leather on sale at a major department store. The coat sold for thousands, but I was lucky enough to get this top designer leather coat on sale. It may be awhile before I can afford another designer coat like this. What can I do to help my leather coat last for a few good years? (Wilmington, NC) Good for you, finding a bargain leather coat that is truly stylish and flattering is a fashion find that will last for seasons to come, if you treat your leather garment properly. Scrunching a leather or

Holiday attire for men… A guy’s guide to dressing festive

Holiday attire for men… A guy's guide to dressing festive I've received a Christmas Dinner invitation from my employer that states "Holiday Attire." What is considered "Holiday Attire" for men? (Tamarac, FL) Just what everyone needs to top off the most chaotic time of year is an invitation with specific fashion plate requests- especially from your boss. ‘Tis the season to be overwhelmed! Holiday dress for men is luckily not as fancy as it is for women. A guy can get away with sprucing up enough to look festive, but not to the point of looking overly foppish. When a holiday party invitation asks for "holiday attire" or "festive dress" it really means to simply not look dour and have

Wide Calf Boot Tips… How to zipper or stretch boots over wide calves

Wide Calf Boot Tips… How to zipper or stretch boots over wide calves I just bought this great pair of knee high wide calf boots, but I can't get the zipper to close over my calves. Is there any way to stretch them? Someone said Star Jones talked about a boot stretching device on The View. Please help I love these boots! (Marietta, GA) First question- why did you buy a pair of boots that you cannot zip? Were they super cheap? A bargain is only a bargain when the perceived deal is useful. I can identify with buying boots that are a tad snug in the fever of a shopping frenzy, but not being able to zip them -

The perils of pink… Going to extremes wearing one color

The perils of pink… Going to extremes wearing one color I have a pink wool peacoat that I bought for some reason last year. I am over 30 and a working professional. Can I get away with wearing pink? It looks great with my coloring, which is the only reason-- so far-- that I am keeping it. Or are pink coats better left for little girls? Thanks for your advice! (Zurich, Switzerland) You've really come to the wrong girl to extol the virtues of wearing pink. Pink is no longer a color, it's become a state of mind for some women. Yes, there are gorgeous shades of pink- dusty rose, that Schiaparelli shocking pink, rosebud, certain fuchsia's, blush, and men

Non-surgical face-lift to renew skin contours… Thermage reduces the signs of aging skin

Non-surgical face-lift to renew skin contours… Thermage reduces the signs of aging skin    I've had a stressful year and my face is showing it. I feel like I've developed a turkey neck and have lost elasticity in my skin. It's not a huge amount of droop, but just enough to try to stop before it sags some more. I'm really not interested in cosmetic surgery or any other invasive procedures. Although, I desperately want to look better, I don't want to look different like so many of the aging celebrities who suddenly look like "refreshed" aliens. My friend had mentioned a treatment called Thermage and was interesting in learning more about it. (Tempe, AZ)   >>RELATED: Want an update

Are bare legs ok in a professional environment? Avoiding a pantyhose faux pas

Are bare legs ok in a professional environment? Avoiding a pantyhose faux pas I just started a position, outside my home, for the first time in many years. I am working around men - very well dressed commercial real estate brokers. My location is in Carlsbad, CA, which is a somewhat upscale beach city. I was told by a female secretary in their La Jolla office that nylons are so out. Bare legs are in style even in a professional environment. True or untrue? Does one consider the season, the climate, or the location when determining what professional dress is? (Carlsbad, CA) Sorry, to tell you, but you are showing your age! Fashionably speaking, nude nylons have been out of
