Ring It In! Stylist Advice on what to wear to celebrate New Year’s Eve at home

Q: Dear Sharon: I am not planning a big night out but still want something special to wear on New Year’s Eve. As a mater of fact, I’m never one to really go all out on New Year’s Eve but that doesn’t mean that I don’t like to celebrate in some small way.

At best, we are going next door for a champagne toast with a few neighbors, but most likely, my husband and I will hang in and stay cozy.

Is there something simple that you can suggest so I feel a bit more glam than usual but still homey? Thank you… love your site!  –-A.K. (via fashion advice)

A:Dear A.K.:  You are not alone in wanting to stay close to home or at home to watch the New Year’s Eve Ball drop. A recent report says that 62% of people plan on staying home for New Year’s Eve.

To keep to a festive feel when stopping by a neighbor’s house or even having a quiet dinner at home I would think cozy but with a touch of glam.

A Glimmery, cozy sweater- Think about adding some fashion yin and yang, such as a glittery top like the one pictured above by Generation Love Foil Draped Tee at Bloomingdales over a pair of skinny jeans.

A Burst of color by way of a bit of a simple sparkly necklace with a basic tee-shirt- Adding a pop of neon with some grown-up glam crystals, like the gorgeous necklace pictured will dress up even the most basic gray cashmere tee-shirt for New Year’s and keep you right on trend all the way into summer.

Velvet jeans- Revisit the new-school version of grunge with a pair of velvety jeans worn with worn with a cozy plaid shirt, upswept hair, and a hit of red lipstick.

Very intimate-  If you do chose to stay home alone, while you may not be a negligee kinda gal in everyday life, this may be the night to honor your inner Elizabeth Taylor, and try a sexy silk chemise, or be more homey with a fab cashmere robe and slim silk pj’s… the ultimate in stay at home chic!
