Age Appropriate Fashion- Over 40, It’s Back to classics and how to navigate trends for Spring 2012

The Urban Jungles of this world inevitably produce trends in fashion that make their way into closets across America. With fashion week upon us, I’m looking forward to the fashion parade outside of Lincoln Center. The young and restless work the stairs and promenade leading up to the tents ala Lady Gaga!  Yet, there are…

Age-Appropriate Dress- Real Women Are Pretty Harsh When It Comes To Fashion Choices

I'll Have What She's Having: Style WITHOUT an expiration date. I don't think Jane Fonda (70's), Sigourney Weaver (60's), Madonna (50's), and Demi Moore (40's) got the memo from the British ladies polled who seem to think that 30 is the new 60– well, sort of– when it comes to style! These gorgeous at any age celebrity ladies were probably too busy being vital rather than worrying if they are too old to wear stilettos. Yes, the study says that at age 51 you're over the hill for high heels. Can you imagine?Listen, I'd be the first one to tell you that you're a bit long in the tooth to be skipping around in pink velour pants with some cute slogan on your tush and a tramp stamp peering out above that when you are no longer a kid.But ageless style is NOT about a number, it's about how YOU look. Style isn't about worrying about what you cannot wear but being aware of what you can wear. You should be looked at as being beautiful and ageless rather than what you can pull off at that age.Giving up on looking modern is just giving in to being dowdy- and, that will certainly pile on the perceived years to your appearance.

Bianca Jagger Rocks Roberto Cavalli Like A White Horse

I’ll Have What She’s Having: I’ve been mesmerized by Bianca Jagger’s style since Studio 54. This is post kismet… or some odd coincidence of If You Could Read My Mind.Just as Brad Boles and I were reminiscing about Disco Sally and Studio 54, this photo of the eternally gorgeous Bianca Jagger, dressed in a green caftan by Roberto Cavalli, turns up in my inbox! Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood but as a Native New Yorker, 54 and Disco Nights were part of my coming of age.Enough tired Studio 54 music puns, but it is hard for me to not make the association as seeing Bianca on the Studio 54 dance floor or lounging on a sofa are iconic style moments that will stay in my mind forever.

Supermodel Style- Claudia Schiffer and Yasmin Le Bon Get Casual Chic Right

I’ll Have What She’s Having: Age-appropriate fashion. We get so caught up in red carpet fashion, but it’s everyday style that most of us need!SSure, it’s fun to ogle red carpet fashion and photos of today’s young crop of models, but what’s supposed to inspire a real woman over 30ish?Really, when was the last time you wore a ballgown or a pair of cut-off shorts and thigh high boots? Not too recently, I’ll bet. We need grown-up ageless style that we can wear everyday of our life, not in some fantasy. We are old enough to see trivial trends come and go and savvy enough to know what works on our body… what we want is realistic fashion without an expiration date!So how about considering the everyday timeless style of Nineties supermodels Claudia Schiffer and Yasmin Le Bon? Women and not girls, the two supes still have it going on and then some. And, when I say timeless, I also mean ageless so that these looks are right whether you are 25 or 55… that’s what age-appropriate fashion is about.

Fashion Emergency: Help! I’m in a fashion rut and only 22!

Short torso, long legs, no styleI would love to be proud of what I wear but it’s hard to feel attractive in my comfort zone of T-shirts and jeans.I also struggle with trying to find a style that I feel is age appropriate for me at 22 years old and not too young or too old. I’ve never considered myself to be very stylish and I tend to stay away from current fads, like gladiator sandals for instance. The brand I rely most heavily on is the Gap and while I’m attracted to the unique style of clothing at Urban Outfitters, I generally feel too lost to piece anything together. If I had to describe the type of style I’d like to have it would be put together, eclectic, sophisticated, and most of all unique.
