Best of Haute Couture Fall 2011- Givenchy and Valentino

A girl's gotta dream….so here's some inspiration…For the very limited few who actually can afford to buy Haute Couture and for the actresses who gladly wear it on the red carpet, couture is a luxury that few will ever be able to feel on their bodies. So when given the opportunity to indulge in one of fashion's greatest fantasies, it may as well be gorgeous! Some faves… – SH>> MORE: Fashion Shows and Runway ReviewsAs the roster of Haute Couture designers continues to dwindle from season to season, Ricardo Tisci at Givenchy and Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli at Valentino offered two of the best collections from the recent Fall 2011 shows held earlier this month by managing to meld the expertise, techniques and handicrafts of their respective ateliers with notions of Couture's storied past for looks that were as refreshingly modern as they were sublime.Valentino

Best of Haute Couture Spring 2011

Runway Review: Paris Couture Fashion Week Givenchy, Bouchra Jarra, Valentino

I don’t if it’s because of the mass appeal of Juicy Couture or simply the way its meaning evolves as it filters into mainstream vernacular, but "haute couture" although commonly perceived as a custom item of clothing of any sort or price, in actuality is a term protected by law and defined by the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie de Paris with very specific rights.

Best of Haute Couture Fall 2010 – The Glamour, The Fantasy, The Allure

“As we prepare for the Spring 11 Fashion Weeks, we reflect the unimaginable beauty of what was Haute Couture Fall 2010. Naveed Hussain has spent some time digesting the magnificence of all that is available for only a privileged few.Haute Couture has been a tireless subject of debate. While many like to continually point out it’s weak sales across the board and diminishing relevance in society. Although that may be the case, wasn’t it always?Isn’t couture about that unattainable and highly elusive luxury item we all like to dream of having? Hasn’t globalism made “luxury” too readily attainable? The nine designers who showed for Haute Couture Fall 2010 clearly understand the craft beautifully. However, there were four contributions whose focus and edit were so precise that we want to take a moment and applaud them. These designers respectively pay homage to the past with their own distinctive signatures while moving things forward with the kind of youthful gusto couture could thrive on.John Galliano at Christian Dior, Ricardo Tisci at Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier, Maria Grazia Chiuri & Pier Paolo Piccioli at Valentino seem determined to energize Haute Couture with troves of tasty options.”

Oscar Dress Red Carpet Review

Oscar Dress Red Carpet ReviewFashion’s Best, Worst, and Plenty in the Middle on the Academy Awards Red Carpet. It’s the morning after and which star wore the most memorable Oscar Dress?Truth be told, less is more when it comes to the perfect Oscar dress unless you aim to make a big bold statement on the red carpet. It’s unfortunate that so many stylists got the memo on frothy dresses with full skirts and plenty of trains because by the end of the evening it was almost impossible to tell each ‘top of the wedding cake’ dress from the next. But I do know that their knock-offs will be coming to a prom near you.medium>> Don’t miss OSCAR Fashion Red Carpet PhotosThat said, we’re going to talk about the major fashion statement making risk takers, the queens of timeless chic. Whether it be simple or dramatic, love them or hate them, these Oscar dresses are the ones that are the most memorable.

Lady Gaga and Giorgio Armani Prive at the Grammy’s, a spectacular fashion collaboration

That was before last night’s the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. The bar has been raised for the melding of fashion as theater. What we witnessed at the Grammy’s was one of the most superlative and iconic fashion collaborations of this time between two seemly disparate arbiters of style, Lady Gaga and Giorgio Armani Prive- the Haute Couture collection.

If there ever was a collection destined for the stars of the red carpet, Mr. Armani’s ‘New Moon’ would be it. If only so the wearer of the gowns would pose to grant us the lingering moments to reflect the exquisite beauty and other-worldy construction of these radiant and luminescent gowns. Bravo!

LA Fashion Week: Lana Fuchs Runway Review, Spring 2008

A Couture Wonderland…The Lana Fuchs Couture fashion show was an opulent mash of party dresses, gowns, bold prints and colors, ruffles, fringe, and so much more! I do love, however, that they kept the make-up and hair minimal at best so that all the attention could be focused on the clothing. The hair was pulled away from the face, smooth but loosely set. A nude lip and cat eyes were all they needed to top it off. There was a great little selection of printed dresses on the runway that I couldn’t get my mind off.
