Sex and the City 2 Top Fashion Trend is the Maxi Dress. Here’s how to wear it

How to wear a maxi dress and not look like you ran out of the house in your nightgownoriginalOk, “Sex and the City” fans, I’m not saying that you should show up at the movie theater this Friday dolled up as your favorite SATC character, but I know some of you will (again).Think of this as purely fashion tips to get the look right, and if it happens to be the hottest summer fashion trend to emerge out of SATC2, so be it.In an interview on E!, Sarah Jessica Parker said that the long, maxi dress, or Desert Chic as she called it, would be the HOT “Sex and the City 2″ fashion trend replacement for the ubiquitous gladiator sandals that are still loitering in some closets 2 years after the first SATC movie. It’s no coincidence that as Creative Director for the Halston Heritage label, the secondary archival collection from Halston, Sarah Jessica Parker is flaunting many of her designs in the movie thus making it a click-to-buy extravaganza and almost as heady as a night at Studio 54 where, no doubt, many of those floaty looks first grazed a dance floor.shop_productOne of the most featured maxi dresses from the movie is the Halston Heritage Iconic Pleated Long Dress in Orange, pictured left and above, on SJP for the film and on a look-a-like model and available at Singer 22. The flouncy dress has a decidedly disco feel to it, which may be a bit much for the day.>> READ: Sarah Jessica Parker + Sex and the City 2 = 80′s RewindlargeI’ve always been a fan of maxi dresses to beat the summer heat. Particularly more peasant or ethnic styles that are light and breezy in hot weather yet far more glam–yet still casual– than wearing a pair of shorts or a summer skirt.

The Most Fashionable Films at the Tribeca Film Festival from Halston to Vidal Sassoon

“Fashion, beauty, and style are hot tickets at the 9th Annual Tribeca Film FestivalWe cannot help but notice some very stylish films set to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City later this week from those that create, inspire or influence fashion trends with an emphasis on the 1960′s and 1970′s. Get tickets if you can. While all the girls are giddy with the upcoming release of “Sex and the City 2″ and Sarah Jessica Parker wearing the white jersey Halston Heritage dress in the ubiquitous movie poster, it’s time to learn about who the real Halston was.”Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston,” is a portrait of America’s first celebrity designer with reflections from Liza Minnelli, Diane Von Furstenberg, Andre Leon Talley, Anjelica Huston, Bob Colacello, and Billy Joel.Vidal Sassoon The MovieThere’s more behind the man who “changed the world with a pair of scissors” from frothy bouffants to the iconic and geometric wash and wear bob hairstyle in the 1960′s. “Vidal Sassoon The Movie” chronicles the self-made man from his beginning in a Jewish orphanage to becoming the rock and rolliest master of Mod hair design.Cast includes fashion designer Mary Quant.”

Clothing Construction, the Beauty Behind the Seams

It’s so easy to get the look, but what is the mastery behind its seams?”Knowing the sewing construction is what makes one a designer not a stylist,” Charles Kleibacker, at the FIT American Style Symposium. There’s no doubt that I’m a seam queen! I can spot a well-made garment in an instant and appreciate the craft that went into its construction. It comes from a discerning eye and knowing when it matters most to have the best that you can or when a trendier throwaway version is just fine. Or, perhaps, the contemporary combination of the mixing both high and low fashion.
