Business Style Update: Three Ways to Upgrade Your Style Now Even If Fashion Is Not Your Thing

I was at a business retreat this weekend with fellow women entrepreneurs who suddenly found themselves in the spotlight. Sounds great, right? Nope. These otherwise smart, savvy and successful women looked like deer in headlights when it came to how they present themselves.  Simply because they never really thought about it before. It just was not their thing. And now, they felt insecure, irrelevant, inappropriate and out of touch. It doesn't have to be that way. Even if style doesn't come naturally to you, looking pulled together and relevant is mandatory if you want to be perceived as someone who has made it in your profession. Style can be intimidating if  you're afraid to take the chance. It’s so easy to

Wearing brown and black… Rules are for fools when it comes to men’s fashion

Wearing brown and black… Rules are for fools when it comes to men's fashion Alright, so I have a friend who professes that the brown with black rule for fashion is completely outdated. He said that its roots actually lie with royalty wearing black and lower classes wearing brown, and never the two shall meet. So, I was just wondering if it is okay to ditch the rule, as long as the accessories are the same? Thanks! (Radford, VA) Your pal needs far more than some fashion enlightening. I think you should ditch the twit and tell him not to come back until he gets some class. Or perhaps tell Mr. Biggety to limit his attire to an a-hole friendly

Male Makeover, Not… Offended by disgusting appearance of co-worker

I am slated to open an office in a prestigious location with a co-worker coming up in September. I have long had issues with his grooming, yet he seems completely unaware and when I drop slight and, at times, bold hints--he thinks it's a joke. I don't want to make you sick, but it's everything! This guy is going to meetings with the public and I am HORRIFIED. He is a walking dork: the same haircut with all the same cowlicks from when he was 5, long hair (with attachments) coming from his nose and ears, clothes that do not fit (pants too short and too old), chapped lips and hands, and spittle always at the corner of his lips.

Break Out of Blah… How to Get Some Zing In Your Wardrobe

Go for the bling-bling and have fun with life!  Dear Sharon: Help, I look like so dreary and baggy. The problem is, I'm not the slimmest person in the world. But I'm not fat. I'm just average. I have a round butt and big boobs. So, to hide this because I don't feel comfortable with it, I wear baggy, baggy, and dreary clothes that aren't becoming to me. When I see other girls with their clothes being more attractive than mine, I go home and look in the mirror. Then, I think to myself, how can I have actually worn this stuff? What advice do you have? --Tedious Tendencies (Whiteford, Maryland)   Dear Tedious Tendencies: Sweetie, if Jennifer Lopez hid her round butt and big boobs, we would never have

Friend of a Fashion Faux Pas

Do I dare tell me friend that her taste is atrocious? Sadly, and much to my regret, our dear friend, Miss Lady-- yes, her real name-- will join us for dinner and then we will go out about town. She will often sport (IN THE DEAD OF WINTER, MIND YOU!) summer backless slides. I have gently tried to explain to her that perhaps she should try a more seasonal shoe… perhaps, one that will keep her feet warm, and she laughed, and laughed, and laughed! My friend consulted an elderly woman (I'm sure a part-timer, cleaning up the post-Christmas rubble) at Dillard's, in our fair city of Nashville, and was informed that backless shoes were all the rage year-round. Sharon,
