What to wear post baby weight to feel confident about your body

Dear Sharon:  I have always had a small frame. I am about five foot and weigh about 130 pounds. Well, I just had a baby about two months ago. I have baby fat still which makes the fitting clothing I normally wear out of the question. Wearing baggy clothes is also a no go since I am so short and do not want to appear bigger than I am. Therefore, I am at a loss as to what my choices are. My most important goal is to feel comfortable in my own skin. I have often tried to dress like other people who never worked out for me. Developing my own style is a must. Please help me. I would be forever grateful as this would definitely boost my

The Shopping Gene…

Or, what my mom taught me about quality, bargains & a discerning eye I had an early Mother's Day surprise when my husband unearthed a few envelopes of photos while he was hunting through some storage. This set of pre-digital pics were most likely what I had given my mom when my son was an infant. And, now ended up being tucked away in a box. What a pleasant surprise to see photos of my mom with my 11 week old baby, and of my little white girl poodle who was always on high alert watching over my son. There's even a snap with Po, the favorite Teletubby, all pictured above. In honor of Mother's Day, I started thinking about some of

Mommy Chic: How to boost self-confidence + style? I’m a stay-at-home mom and my fashion sense is a wreck

Our latest reader question comes from a young mother of two who wants to know how to boost self-confidence + style… something, we all deal with. We've gone over similar territory before, but we know everyone needs a refresher or a nudge every so often. Let's dive in and help add some shine to her life and yours and harness her Mommy Chic  fashion potential.  I'm a 29 year-old stay-at-home mother of two. I have recently started struggling with my lack of fashion. I have a lot of clothes in my closet, but I really only wear a couple of things that I like. Most days I just wear jeans (that probably don't flatter me at all) and t-shirts that are stained and worn out. I

How to look pretty when you forgot about taking care of yourself

Looking beautiful is much about how YOU see yourself.
Have you ever been so overwhelmed in what life offers you that you forgot about taking care of yourself? Or continue to put everyone else's needs in front of yours?   Let's help this reader look pretty again- we all deserve that! -S.H. Dear Sharon:  I need some serious advice. I have always been the plain Jane type, and have never really felt beautiful. I am 25 years old, I have two children and a wonderful husband. All my life I have worn nothing but jeans, a T-shirt, sneakers and or sandals. I have also had the same hairstyle all my life, aside from the color. I work for minimum wage and all the money I have goes to my children and

Three Ways to Double Duty Your Style- Business fashion for a back to work mom

Dear Sharon: It's time for me to address what it takes to create a wardrobe of business fashion for a back to work mom. After being away from the concrete jungle for 6 years, it's time to go back to the office on a part-time basis. The thing is that my wardrobe is looking a bit dated and close to a size smaller although I am hoping to get back to my original weight. I want to start to rebuild my wardrobe slowly, as I'm not sure if I will stay in an office environment or opt for consulting work later. What's a good strategy to build an appropriate wardrobe of business fashion for a back to work mom? (J.D. via Fashion Advice)

How I Remember Vidal Sassoon- Some beer and an angry mom!

An ancient photo of me in Italy with one of the many incarnations of a Vidal Sassoon Salon styled bob
Bet I got your attention with this headline! I got my mom's attention too. I really owe my hair (on a good day) to Vidal Sassoon... well to the salon and their team of precision trained stylists.  The hair legend's death this week has me thinking about how his work personally helped create my hair look. >> RELATED: Hair Tips & Trends When I was about 15 my mom must have gotten sick and tired about my three threads of straggly long hippie hair and let me get a haircut at the Vidal Sassoon Salon. It was around the time that people were asking me about possibly modeling (so not for me) and I was starting to hang out with my

The “Lucky Stars” Material Girl Model Search Video with Mama Madonna and Lola

It's comforting to know that even in this behind-the-scenes' mockumentary, like any other teenager and their worrywart mom, Madonna's daughter Lola (yes, Lordes) doesn't pay much attention to her either. Madonna even accuses Lordes of being a lookist and an ageist... well,  we know those stories. Cynthia Rowley Designer Diapers are the Posh Pampers

Cynthia Rowley designed Diapers for Pampers Road to style can be spotty... Another mom note from today that even the Material Girl can't top. I'm totally mixed on this one. Cynthia Rowley has designed 11 styles of Pampers, including pastels, stripes, madras and ruffles. On one hand, sure why shouldn't diapers be cute? On the other hand, what about my pet peeve with all those moms, dads, and nannies who let the kid run around with a full load. Gross as that is, a pretty diaper is another excuse to look, sniff the other way. >> SHOP for some Diaper Bags just as cute as the designer diapies They'll be offered in Target Corp. stores beginning in mid-July Ok, moms...

Madonna the Mommy Talks on Video About Her Material Girl Clothing Line With Lordes

Madonna's Material Girl Collection with Lordes Last week we announced that Madonna's Material Girl Collection is the ultimate Mommy and Me clothing line. Now we have a video of Madonna the Mom talking about what it's like to have a very stylish child. Her concerns and proud mom moments sound pretty much the same as most parents who live in an urban environment and happen to have a rather sophisticated kid-- it's rather cute and endearing. Material Girl clothing launches at Macy's on August 3 and Madonna talks about hoping to get a Material Girl float for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I was hoping to get a pass to the bleachers the year that I had my TV commercial

Hey mom, look what I bought!

Fashion show video to show latest shopping goodies… I stumbled upon this clip and think it is very charming. Margaret Maloney made a little “fashion show” video, with clever commentary, to show her mom some of the clothes that she bought herself this weekend. She even has some Anne Klein from Macy’s! “Yes, mom, I will wear something else over the arms,” tells us that mom does like to get her fashion two-cents in… sound familiar? Hey Margaret, you know you have it going on! “Clothes I purchased this weekend with Christmas money, gift certificates, and my own hard-earned cash. I made this video so my mother could see what I got.” Vimeo.
