“A Quiet American- Ralph Rucci and Paris” -The Movie

For four years C.S Leigh followed America's closest designer to a true couturier, Ralph Rucci, for his upcoming documentary film  A Quiet American: Ralph Rucci & Paris that's set to debut during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2012. MORE: Ralph Rucci The film focuses on Rucci's employment and relationship with haute couture artisans and technicians and follows him through the laborious development of creating seven cycles of collections and allows viewers an expansive view of what goes into each season. It also boasts a fashion-star-studded roster of interviews from those closest to Rucci's work including Lee Radziwill, Cathy Horyn, Suzy Menkes, Didier Grumbach of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture Parisienne, Francisco Costa, Hamish Bowles and Andre Leon Talley of Vogue, Francois Lesage, Yaffa Assouline, James Galanos, and many more. -Naveed Hussain

Age Appropriate Fashion- Over 40, It’s Back to classics and how to navigate trends for Spring 2012

The Urban Jungles of this world inevitably produce trends in fashion that make their way into closets across America. With fashion week upon us, I'm looking forward to the fashion parade outside of Lincoln Center. The young and restless work the stairs and promenade leading up to the tents ala Lady Gaga!  Yet, there are elements that can be lifted from the wreckage such as the vintage print scarfs that reemerged during the fall 2011 fashion week in February. Tied to a handle of a petite bag or knotted at the neck, they can be quite beautiful: think Grace Kelly. MORE: Age-Appropriate When you are in your mid-forties how do you translate the runway into your personal style? The good

A Gender Bending Freak wrapped in Tissue Paper... Think Lady Gaga Meets Isabella Blow! We let Brad Boles out with the fashion week dish... runway reviews to come... Who said a Sunday night was just about the Grammy Awards! Or Lady Gaga with flesh-like pointed shoulders in last night's performance of her Madonna "inspired???" song, Born This Way? Here in New York, we have Fashion Week and at the Custo Barcelona show, the Gaga would have been all over the collection with its bold retro prints in shades of pinks, purples and turquoise and lots of

Edition by Georges Chakra NY Fashion Week, Fall – Winter 2010

There is a pristine elegance in the collection's delicate beauty that is feminine but highly sophisticated at the same time. Runway Review Excerpt: The Edition by Georges Chakra collection brings to mind a very modern update on Jacques Fath who was known for his curvaceous and architectural cuts in cocktail dresses and ballgowns in the late 1940's to early 1950's. Once at the Paris flea market, I was lucky enough to come upon a steel colored brocade cocktail dress with a double row of velvet ribbons, black net inner slip, intricate inner and outer seaming, and sculpted to resemble an upside down champagne flute. The exquisite dress by the French designer Jacques Fath who was known for his curvaceous and

NY Fashion Week: David Elfin Spring / Summer 2010

Smart with a somber, soothing palette and totally wearable separates with a crisp minimal core. Veteran Spanish designer David Elfin showed his second collection in the U.S this season after being in the business for the past ten years, and compared to the overload of cocktail dresses seen everywhere else, this was a pleasant effort. >> See runway images from the David Elfin collection While there may have been some audacious propositions like a male model exiting in a tube top, he kept it smart with a somber, soothing palette and some totally wearable separates that had a crisp minimal core. >> See our complete runway coverage and fashion show photos His gray romper was a smart take on the

NY Fashion Week: Ports 1961 fashion show review

PORTS 1961| Runway Fall 2009 Collection-Mercedes Benz Fashion Week… Inspired by exotic India the Ports 1961 fall 2009 collection was beaming with rich color, luxe fabrications, metallics and attention to the tiny details in accessories and overall construction. The fashion show theme was set on the runway with a delightful live band playing lively middle eastern music while the models walked. The models’ eyes were lined with dark kohl pencil and their hair was tied in a very tousled, romantic braid - this overall setting created a warm and exotic mood, taken away to India! >> See our complete runway coverage and fashion show photos The clothing was had a modern take on tradition with some of the cuts, the

NY Fashion Week: Custo Barcelona fashion show review

CUSTO BARCELONA | Runway Fall 2009 Collection-Mercedes Benz Fashion Week… Love Custo!!! I realize Custo Barcelona clothing may come off as ridiculous to some, it makes no sense, but that is what is to love about it!!! Wild patterns, a million colors all at once, texture mixing and playing no where near the rule book - fashion on acid - doesn’t that sound amazing?! >> More Mercedes Benz Fashion Week photos of the Custo Barcelona fashion show   There was a lot of shine - very hairy, sparkly fabrics, sequins and beading, metallic brocades, shiny satin and once again this beaded strand material similar to what I saw at Thuy. It was fabric upon fabric upon fabric to create tons

NY Fashion Week: Joanna Mastroianni presentation review

Joanna Mastroianni Fall 2009 Collection… This was a very tight, high society eveningwear line not over looking a single detail and using stunning fabrications. I do love the hoop-la that goes along with the runway shows, but I must admit, these intimate presentations not only make you feel not just like number but you can see the construction, the fit, the fabric textures and all the hand sewn details up close and personal which gives a bigger appreciation. >> See our complete runway coverage and fashion show photos This line I felt could really suit a broad age range as well (which was aided of course by the 19-year old skinny models!) going from a young socialite off to a

NY Fashion Week: Lela Rose fashion show review

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week- Lela Rose, Fall 2009 Collection… Finally a show with color to keep our recession spirits up and remind women that party attire should indeed be fun. There is also a fantastic play of texture - chunky woven tweeds with a hint of metallic, shiny silks mixed with sequins, flowing silk chiffon as well as stiff and shiny satin. The shimmer caught everyone’s eye, nothing was flat and it allowed for a lot of movement when on the body. The ombre coloring had a modern romantic effect especially on the pieces that had ombre color stripes from sequins.
