Join me for the Shoefie Diary Instagram Challenge: Shop your shoe closet!

How many shoes do you own that you almost never wear? I know for me, it'a A LOT! Earlier this summer, I started a little shoe challenge for myself. Every day, I would make the effort to pull out a pair of shoes that I forgot about (I'm a shoe fiend) and work them into my wardrobe again.  To keep track, I'd take a fast #shoefie (that's a selfie for shoes) to document it. What happened was that since I have a tendency to dress from the shoe up, I started to come up with more varied outfits based on my footwear. Now, mind you, as a work from home entrepreneur, I usually wear fairly casual clothes that I style

What Color Shoe to Wear With What: The (Non) Definitive Guide to mixing and matching shoes to your outfit

If I could only count how many times I have been asked, "what color shoe to wear with...?" I'd probably run out of digits. Here's the thing, there really is no, that's right zippo, answer on what shoe color you should wear with what color outfit. In style, there's no blanket cookie-cutter answer, but a combination of elements that work in harmony to look great or not so great together. Think about shades, textures, hues, pattern, cut, balance, shoe style, design, mood, and how it all comes to together on you as a whole to determine what the "right" color should be. There are more or less guides that you can observe, but there is no right answer until you

Sometimes, you need a little kick to get out of your comfort zone and that's what this post is about. So kiss that style rut bye-bye.- S.H. The other night I was sick. Really sick. A case of food poisoning to rival that scene in The Exorcist times seven. The following day had me feeling like I was bitten by a swarm of Tsetse flies (ok, I don't know what that really feels like, but it could be close to this) coupled with a case of cabin fever that I desperately needed a quick respite from. Vroom, vroom, it was

Killer Heels, maybe my husband was right

Walk don't run (in those shoes) to Killer Heels, shoe lust for your soul I'm a confirmed shoe addict. Don't believe me, here's a tidbit conversation with my husband while we were on the way to see The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe at the Brooklyn Museum. Scene One: Sunday drive to the museum Husband: Which exhibition are we going to? Me: Shoes Husband: Can't you just look in your closet? Well, err, he was sort of right. One of my favorite pair of shoes were on display at the exhibition; you can see why I got them here. Ok, so it's a version of my Nicholas Kirkwood wedges with the kooky architectural heel but a slightly different upper. And, they

Stylist Advice- How to make your shoes fit when your feet are different sizes

Let's help this reader with his shoe question to find narrow width shoes for his wife who has two different foot sizes.  Dear Sharon:  My wife has narrow feet. To add to this, they are also two different sizes. We are traveling frequently and I would like to gift her some fine high fashion shoes ($800 to $1500) but I do not know what brands are available in narrow widths. And, if any designer brand will allow to have two differing sizes at time of purchase? She deals with poor fit that does not permit her to walk confidently and I would like to help. Many thanks in advance for your professional insight. Puma knocked itself off and I want in!

Shoe Alert: A couple of summers ago, I bought a pair of Puma by Hussein Chalayan Black Label open toe wedge bootie platform net sneakers. Let's break that down. I have never been a fan of open toe booties, most hybrid sneakers, and net shoes, well... BUT, I loved these shoes. Wore them to death as they were one of the most comfortable summer shoes ever that seemed to work with just about everything in my closet. You can tell from the snap above, that I've left the skanky, worn out pair in my closet because I couldn't bear to part with them (yet). Here's my morning thrill. Puma knocked themselves off, and at a fraction of the price that

Yes, I’m telling you to wear ugly shoes! Spring Comfort Shoes are not just for the schlumpy set

Spring comfort shoes mark a trend that's worth taking from the runway... Finally, in style and practical options are here! Ok, some will call them ugly. Let's just say they're stylishly ugly (how's that for a fashionable oxymoron?). After years of seeing girlfriends in freakishly tall platform heels and wearing confining yet proper shoes myself, I for one am on board with what's been coming down the runway, and you should be too. Might I add, this is one throwback I'm willing to try as the comfort shoe trend is just as easy as it sounds. >>Back to Basics: The Return of The Chic Sneaker Back in the 90's, it was a big departure from my preppy phase to go
